Learn Japanese Through Anime || Tomioka: "Seisatsu Yodatsu"

They're idioms and proverbs in the form of four kanji put together. Japanese people use them more than you might think. Did you know that Kimetsu no Yaiba is known for using a lot of them too?

"Seisatsu Yodatsu"

If you don't have an advanced understanding of Japanese (or you can't read Japanese subtitles) you might not know that Kimetsu no Yaiba, or Demon slayer is notorious for using what are known as "yojijukugo." Even in the first episode, a line said by Giyuu Tomioka features a yojijukugo, which are Japanese idioms and proverbs in the form of four kanji. There are so many yojijukugo in the Japanese language with deep-rooted history; even native Japanese speakers don't know a lot of them! In today's episode of Anime Phrases 101, Sophie and YT go in depth about what each of the kanji in the yojijukugo, 生殺与奪 (seisatsu yodatsu) mean. This might be a good episode for all the advanced Japanese learners out there!
